NZ share of world milk powder market increases

13:54 pm on 27 August 2011

New Zealand has increased its share of the international whole milk powder market.

Exports for the first half of this year were 24% higher than the same period last year.

Whole milk powder exports from the European Union have fallen, while exports from Argentina have grown, re-establishing it as the world's third largest supplier.

Shipments from Australia are 15% higher than last year though that is well behind what it supplied in 2009.

Combined exports from New Zealand, the EU, Argentina and Australia last year made up more than 80% of the global whole milk powder trade.
