Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) and Waka Kotahi have teamed up with some of the country's biggest construction players to deliver millions of dollars of infrastructure upgrades.

The authorities yesterday announced a consortium of Beca, Downer, Fulton Hogan and WSP will begin delivering on the objectives of the Wakatipu Transport Programme Alliance before Christmas.
Among the projects the consortium will deliver are Queenstown's $60 million town centre upgrade - partially funded through the government's shovel ready fund - and the $90m New Upgrade Programme Package to provide better bus services on State Highway 6 and 6A from Queenstown's centre to its suburbs.
Queenstown Lakes Mayor Jim Boult said residents and visitors to Queenstown would benefit from safer, more accessible spaces and travel choices as a result.
"Beca, Downer, Fulton Hogan and WSP have formed an impressive team, and we are delighted to be partnering with them to deliver critical infrastructure," he said.
"We are delivering to our promise of being on the ground before Christmas, which will provide certainty to the community and local business and confirmation that we are firmly committed to providing a boost to our economy and creating jobs."
Waka Kotahi transport services general manager Brett Gliddon said the parties would work together to get the job done.
"Today is another milestone for QLDC and Waka Kotahi. Our partnership has strengthened over a number of years and today we are seeing the benefits of collaboration and of working hard to have projects planned and ready to go.
"The sector has got the certainty to invest in Queenstown, and I am particularly pleased to see the commitment of the Alliance to develop capability throughout the supply chain."
