Shot Motueka man in a serious condition

The man shot by police after a stand-off in Motueka last week remains in Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit, but is no longer in a critical condition.

A Capital and Coast District Health Board spokesperson said the patient, named by police last week as Ford Hurinui, 27, was now in a serious condition.

St John ambulance crew in Nelson said last week Hurinui was taken to Nelson Hospital, where he was operated on for a serious chest injury, before he was stabilised and then flown by the Nelson Marlborough rescue helicopter to Wellington Hospital.

Meanwhile, Nelson police said they have had a good response for help seeking another man at the at the scene of the incident in Motueka last Thursday afternoon.

Police are still seeking Jahdai Kennard, who was driving the vehicle being pursued, and inquiries are continuing around the information received.

Detective Inspector Kevin Burke said during the armed stand-off, Mr Kennard ran away. Police have also made inquiries with family and known associates of Mr Kennard to try to locate him.

Mr Burke urged Mr Kennard to make contact with police, who are concerned for his welfare.

"I would advise him to either call police and we can arrange to have a chat, or come to the nearest police station," he said.
