Lower Hutt street in lockdown after shooting

A Lower Hutt street has reopened after a man was shot near Pharazyn street in Melling just before midday.

The victim has been taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police said a firearm has been recovered and they were making enquiries.

A Pharazyn street resident said they could see police with guns walking around.

Police would not say if anybody had been arrested, but said there was no risk to the public.
