Alleged killer of Christchurch teen pleads not guilty

A youth charged with the murder of a Christchurch teen has pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance.

Zion Purukamu, 16, died after being injured at a party in the Christchurch suburb of Fendalton on Friday night.

Two other teens were also stabbed, they remain in Christchurch Hospital.

The accused appeared in the Christchurch Youth Court this morning on one charge of murder and two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges through his lawyer and elected a trial by jury.

He will appear again in the High Court next month.
