Santa allowed to go on parade in Christchurch

19:12 pm on 21 November 2011

The Santa Parade in Christchurch has been given the go-ahead despite the concerns of some residents after the route had to be changed because of earthquake damage.

The parade's route, down Riccarton Road and around Hagley Park, has concerned several locals about the increase in traffic and temporary road closures hindering access to their homes.

The Christchurch City Council's road closure committee says the parade can go ahead on 4 December, as long as some minor changes to the traffic management plan are made.

Chairman of the Christchurch Children's Christmas Parade Trust Bruce Gordon says he's relieved to have a decision after some delays.

He expects about 120,000 people to attend the parade.
