Bomb threat at historic Russell pub resolved

14:01 pm on 7 May 2019

Police in Northland had earlier evacuated buildings and closed the Russell waterfront after what was believed to be a bomb threat.

Northland Police said cordons around the premise had been lifted and there was no cause for public concern.

Police will investigate the origin of the threat report that was received at about 10.45am.

Neighbours of the Duke of Marlborough Hotel said they had been told there was a threatening call to staff at the historic pub this morning.

The street was closed off, passenger ferries from Paihia were cancelled, and the public were advised to stay away from areas around The Strand, Cass Street and York Street, including the Russell Wharf.
