Police say a death at a Whangārei waterfall this morning is not suspicious and has been referred to the coroner.

Emergency services responded to reports a person had been critically injured at Paranui Falls just after 11.10am today.

Police cordoned off the area and St John sent a rapid response unit, an ambulance and an operations manager. Firefighters were also at the scene.

The waterfall is in AH Reed Memorial Park, just west of the city.
