Kick Out The Jams: Kane Strang

10:19 am on 6 May 2016

Interviews and live sets from the New Zealand music underground. This week, we kick it with Kane Strang.

Dunedin’s Kane Strang has been busy touring off the back of the release of his album Blue Cheese. His jangly, off-kilter sound attracted international interest from Brooklyn-based label Ba Da Bing, as well as Flying Nun. Both labels released Blue Cheese on vinyl in February.  The album has received a great response locally and internationally, with his band making plans to tour the US later this year.

Over two months house-sitting for his parents, Kane juggled writing, playing and recording eleven tracks for the album. Kane admits he feels a kind of disconnect with the songs on Blue Cheese, and he is eager to record his next album, most of which he has already written.

Between flicking through LPs at Slow Boat Records, Kane talks of touring, his writing process and of being a self-proclaimed control freak.

Filmed and edited by Ezra Simons and Gussie Larkin.
