Late try scoring blitz propels Tasman into Air NZ Cup playoffs

16:56 pm on 4 October 2008

A dominant second half performance against Manawatu has propelled Tasman into the playoffs of the Air New Zealand Cup for the first time.

Five second half tries in Palmerston North, including three in the final ten minutes, secured the 36-7 bonus point win the Makos needed.

The victory, which looked unlikely at half time, propels the side into seventh position above Taranaki - meaning they can't be knocked out of the top eight.

Tasman Coach Todd Blackadder says he's elated Tasman have been able to create history.

He says it would have been a tragedy if they'd missed out on the playoffs.
