Solomons search for man missing at sea

A search and rescue effort is underway for a missing boatie in Solomon Islands.

Solo Ngatonga from Wagina in Choiseul Province went missing on Monday in a bray boat, somewhere between Nukumaroro village in Wagina and Hay Cook Island.

The director of the Solomon Islands Search and Rescue, Edward Tokuru, says authorities weren't notified he was missing until Wednesday.

He says despite bad weather, the search continues.

"We are still continuing today, and probably within the next 48 hours to try and locate this man. I want to stress to the families and loved ones of this person that we marine search and rescue are doing all our best to locate this fellow and we hope we'll find him. We have confidence we'll locate him."

Edward Tokuru says a RAMSI aircraft is also being used in the search.
