Christchurch police are appealing for help from the public following a serious assault in the Port Hills at the weekend.
A man in his 70s at the top of the Rapaki Track, was attacked by another man.
He remains in a serious condition in hospital with head and facial injuries.
The attack is believed to have happened between the hours of 11pm Saturday and 7am Sunday.
The attacker had two dogs with him and was driving a Kombi-style van.
Police are asking for any dashcam footage from motorists on Dyers Pass Road to the west side of Summit Road at the time of the attack.
