A company is supervising the removal of asbestos from homes in the Tokelau atoll of Nukunonu.

Tokelau advised New Zealand earlier this year that the substance had been found and sought assistance in removing it.
A spokesperson for New Zealand's foreign ministry says Nukunonu has contracted a New Zealand firm and will fund the work itself.
Safety equipment has been shipped there and staff from the company will travel there to supervise the removal.
