On Thursday, the fire service was called to a fire at the Vunato Rubbish Dump.

The Lautoka City Council said that fire was brought under control within hours.

But on Saturday, firefighters were called back to the dump when the blaze reignited.

The council said it was concerned about recent unauthorised burning of rubbish at the landfill.

Investigations into both blazes are underway.

In August 2018, a fire at the dump raged for almost two weeks, sending smoke billowing over an 11-kilometre radius.

And in December 2017, a fire at the dump was reportedly lit in six different places.

The council said both fires were deliberately lit but no one was arrested or charged.
