Australia's Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Islands Affairs, Duncan Kerr, will travel to six Pacific countries this week.

Mr Kerr is planning to visit Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru and Tuvalu.

This comes ahead of Australia hosting the Pacific Island Forum in Cairns in early August.

Mr Kerr says he'll meet with six heads of government and a wide range of ministers to discuss the preparations and priorities for the forum meeting, as well as bilateral relationships.

He says he also plans to visit a number of projects funded by the Australian aid agency, AusAID, in the region.
