Invercargill man charged after woman found critically injured

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was critically injured in Invercargill.

Detective Sergeant Mark McCloy said police were called to a house in Mavora Crescent in the suburb of Heidelberg overnight.

An injured woman was found there and taken to hospital.

McCloy said a 51-year-old man who the victim knew had been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and attempted murder.

He will appear in the District Court in Invercargill today.

Forensic investigators and police are carrying out a scene examination at the house today.
