There are more than 300 estuaries along the coastlines of mainland Aotearoa, and offshore islands. The Land, Air and Water Aotearoa Project - LAWA for short - is a partnership that monitors the health of these diverse bodies of water.
They've set up 400 monitoring sites across 80 estuaries. As of this week, you can see all the results from estuary health check-ups online. Jesse speaks to Science lead Dr Tarn Drylie.
