Sandras launches new party in French Polynesia

13:44 pm on 8 September 2009

One of French Polynesia's members of the French assembly, Bruno Sandras, has launched his own party.

The party is to be known as Ia Hau Noa and according to Mr Sandras is to represent what he calls republican values.

Before the launch, he told a local newspaper that autonomy no longer appears to respond to the people's aspirations.

The party's founding congress is to be held on September the 26th.

Until April, Mr Sandras had been a member of the Tahoeraa Huiraatira party led by Gaston Flosse.

He quit that party after accusing it of spending its time sanctioning or excluding people.
