World champion woodchopper Jason Wynyard has died after a battle with cancer.
He was 49.
Wynyard was a nine time world champion and was aiming to return to the sport before being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
In the 2017 New Year Honours, he was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to the sport of wood chopping.
Jason Wynyard is the father of New Zealand basketballer Tai, who in 2014 became the youngest Tall Black international when he took the court against South Korea.
