Fiji judiciary bolstered with more appointments

17:55 pm on 11 June 2009

Two more judges and three more magistrates have been sworn in by Fiji's President, Ratu Josefa Iloilo, at Government House.

Ratu Josefa swore them in just two months after he sacked the entire judiciary when he also abolished the constitution in response to the appeal court declaring the post-coup interim government illegal.

A former magistrate, Salesi Temo, was sworn in as acting puisne judge, alongside a former permanent arbitrator, William Calanchini, who has become ao puisne judge.

The additional magistrates are Eparama Rokoika, Usaia Ratuvuki and Chatan Lakshman.
