The Christchurch City Council is warning residents about people posing as council staff asking to test for asbestos.
A Council spokesperson said it had recently been alerted that private property owners have been visited by people claiming to be from the council, saying they need to carry out asbestos-testing.
The spokesperson said council staff did not carry out asbestos testing at private properties.
Any council worker would have official Council identification and anyone who has been approached is advised to contact the police.
