UNICEF's annual report card has New Zealand languishing near the bottom of the table when it comes to the welfare of children, ranking just 35th out of the 41 OECD and European Union countries.
New Zealand children score poorly compared to other developed countries when it comes to suicide rates, physical health, mental well-being and the basic ability to read and write.
