Consumer confidence at a three-year high

14:22 pm on 14 September 2017

Consumer confidence has hit a three-year high, according to the ANZ-Roy Morgan index.

It has risen by nearly four points this month to 129.9 - its highest since July 2014.

The survey suggests consumers are feeling better off financially than they were a year ago, and more upbeat about their own and the broader economic outlook over the next few years.

ANZ senior economist Philip Borkin said nothing seemed to be denting sentiment, even political uncertainty and a levelling-out of house prices.

He said a strong labour market, low inflation and low interest rates should underpin consumer spending and economic growth.
