Fiji's main opposition SODELPA Party has been allowed to hold constituency meetings after police granted it a waiver from the Public Order Act.
The party was poised to defy the restrictions, considering it as its basic right to freedom of movement and assembly.
The solicitor general had earlier advised police that under the Public Order Act SODELPA was required to apply for a permit seven days before a planned meeting.
FBC News says police approved the SODELPA application yesterday afternoon.
SODELPA says the government side has been holding meetings without a permit.
