No one will be allowed onto Auckland's maunga around fireworks season following two large fires on Tuesday night.
The blaze at Maungarei - Mt Wellington was the biggest fire crews have ever tackled during the annual fireworks season - while another at Maungawhau - Mt Eden was contained to the crater.
Auckland's Tūpuna Maunga Authority says it's will now block access to Auckland's 14 maunga - during the time crackers are on sale.
Checkpoint camera operator Claire Eastham Farrelly and reporter Nita Blake-Persen headed to Maungawhau to speak to the authority's manager Nick Turoa and survey the damage.
