Sacked CNMI deputy police commissioner under house arrest

13:01 pm on 18 March 2013

The Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety in the Northern Marianas, Ambrosio Ogumoro, has been dismissed effective March the 24th.

Mr Ogumoro was on an official visit to Canada last week when a penal summons was issued against him relating to an effort to shield the former attorney general, Edward Buckingham, from being served a penal summons in August.

The Saipan Tribune reports that when Mr Ogumoro returned on Sunday night, he was greeted at the airport by police officers who handed him a letter terminating his employment.

He is now under house arrest and is required to appear in court later today.
