Groeni: Wellington electronica act Groeni have just released their new EP Hinde and this Friday the trio begin a brief excursion around the country in support of the release. They’ll perform at the Darkroom in Christchurch on Friday night ahead of a shows in Auckland and Wellington next weekend. And if you missed it, they’ll also be playing as part of the lineup for Laneway early next year.
Americana Festival: The Southern Fork Americana Fest kicks off this Saturday. The event, organised by Auckland venue The Tuning Fork, takes place over multiple nights through the rest of the month with alt-country acts from the US and NZ such as Justin Townes Earle, Jamestown Revival, The Broken Heartbreakers and The Eastern all part of the lineup. bAnoffee: Up and coming producer/singer Martha Brown aka bAnoffee is heading our way for her first New Zealand show this week. The Melbourne-based singer just released her new EP, Do I Make You Nervous?, and plays Golden Dawn on Saturday night. There’s no presales either, so it’d be best to get in early.
Chronophobia: The organisers of indie festival Chronophonium have put together a series of fundraiser shows after news came that they are being prosecuted. Chronophobia is the latest and takes place this Saturday at Neptune, out in Huia in West Auckland. The lineup includes Sere, New Hang Upos, Bozo, Wet Nurses of Sodom and Lipids, and presale tickets are available here.
Richard Dawson: Experimental singer/songwriter Richard Dawson is in New Zealand for a handful of shows this week, beginning at Whammy Bar tonight. The English musician, who is playing in support of his last album Nothing Important, also has gigs lined up in Wellington, Dunedin and Christchurch over the next week. Chipfest: Running over two nights this weekend, Chipfest sees nine local bands team up for a mini-festival at Auckland venue The Lucha Lounge. The lineup includes Sere, Bloodbags, Cool Runnings, Wizz Kids and Proton Beast, and organisers have promised a “deep fryer cranking out some hot chips”. Details here.
Brockaflower: Following a show in Wellington last weekend, local act Brockaflower play in Auckland this Friday at the Kings Arms. The nine-piece hip-hop/soul act, whose members include Louis Baker and Estere, have just released their new single ‘Conversations’, and they’ll be supported on the night by Leonard Charles aka She’s So Rad’s Jeremy Toy.
