The LBJ Medical Centre in American Samoa is once again searching for a chief medical officer after a successful candidate found during a previous recruitment search opted to turn down the post.
The person visited the territory in February and was due to be on island on June 3rd but a senior hospital official said the person decided not to take up the job for unexplained reasons.
The Hospital Board Chairman, Charles Warren said the apointee had had a change of heart and decided not to come.
Mr Warren said Tofaeono Dr. Victor Williams has been and remains acting CMO until a permanent candidate is found.
Dr Williams has been acting CMO since late last year.
