07:02 am on 4 March 2012

Two men who pretended to help a victim of the London riots last year, but then stole from his backpack have been found guilty of robbery and violent disorder.

Ashraf Rossli, a university student from Malaysia, had been in London for a month when the riots broke out.

The ABC reports he was on his way to help a friend when he was attacked and had his jaw broken.

Mobile phone footage posted on YouTube showed John Kafunda, 22, putting his arm around Mr Rossli, appearing to protect him.

As he did so, Reece Donovan, 22, rifled through his backpack stealing a Sony PlayStation and games worth $US800.

Both men are expected to be sentenced to prison.
