New Guinea wildfire haze spreads to Marianas

14:27 pm on 25 September 2015

The Marianas has been enveloped in a haze caused by several wildfires across Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Northern Australia.

The National Weather Service's Forecast Office in Guam, says southwest winds have blown the haze towards the territory.

The forecasters expect the haze to clear due to the winds from a tropical disturbance moving through Chuuk.

The haze has not been deemed a threat to the CNMI, but people have been advised to listen to updates from the authorities.

The Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation has advised residents with respiratory issues and allergies to be alert for the haze outdoors as they may feel some of its effects.
