Police investigating the disappearance of Denver Chance have established his car was in Waihi on the night he disappeared.
The 43-year-old Auckland businessman was last seen 10 days ago after leaving his home in Mairangi Bay on Sunday, 24 February.
He was reported missing three days later.
CCTV footage earlier captured his car travelling on the Southern Motorway near Drury just after 4pm.
Police said further inquiries established the last known sighting of his red 2008 Nissan Skyline on CCTV footage in Waihi just after 5.30pm on 24 February.
Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie said police still believed finding his car would be key to finding Mr Chance.
They are now urging anyone in the Tauranga and Waihi areas who may have seen him or his car to get in contact.
Police are also examining CCTV footage, and reviewing dash camera footage provided by some motorists who were travelling on the Southern Motorway on the day Mr Chance went missing.
Ms Goldie said police are focusing on the Karaka area, where Mr Chance's cell phone data indicates his phone may have been around 11pm-12am on 24 February.
