An opposition motion to reduce the Fiji prime minister's travel allowance has been defeated in parliament.
The Sodelpa MP Nico Nawaikula had wanted Frank Bainimarama's US$550,000 allowance reduced to $460,000.
Mr Nawaikula said Mr Bainimarama is regularly overseas, where he gets a daily allowance of almost $US1,500.
But the attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, defended the allowance in parliament, adding that travel expenses have been reduced.
