Circumstances of Dunedin death 'unclear,' police say

Police will remain on the scene in Dunedin tonight as they investigate an unexplained death of a man Thursday evening.

Earlier, police said the man died in Dunedin last night after reports of him being assaulted and run over.

Emergency services were called to Eglinton Road, in the suburb of Mornington, about 7.30pm.

"Police are working hard to provide the community with the answers they need and piece together what happened," they said in a statement.

"At this stage of the investigation, the exact circumstances of the man's death are unclear and we are continuing to treat it as unexplained.

"We urge anyone who was in the Eglinton Road area at around 7:30pm last night to come forward and speak with us."

Police are also looking for any CCTV from private or commercial properties covering the area surrounding Eglinton Road.
