Six new suspected cases of swine flu are being investigated by Hawke's Bay District Health Board.
The six people recently returned from overseas. They and have been isolated and given the drug Tamiflu.
Health officials are now trying to trace people who may have come in contact with them.
Two other people, who returned to Hawke's Bay following a cruise, are being monitored.
There are 10 confirmed cases of swine flu in New Zealand.
The latest case was a child who had returned from North America on an Air New Zealand flight on Sunday.
The Ministry of Health says the child, whose age is not disclosed, is in isolation and being treated.
