End of The Hobbit era

08:28 am on 2 December 2014

The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings sagas this morning end where they began - in the Wellington suburb of Miramar.

A special screening of director Sir Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was held at the Roxy Theatre to coincide with the movie’s world premiere in London.

At the special screening were the head of Weta Workshops, Sir Richard Taylor, and actors from the film, including Graham McTavish and Stephen Hunter.

They both said they were thrilled to celebrate the film in the capital and they do not feel as though they are missing out on the London premiere. Sir Peter is attending the London event.

“It's truly fitting that the Wellington celebrations for the film will be held here in Miramar where it all began; as a phenomenal journey and era comes to an end,” Sir Richard said.

The film has its general release in New Zealand cinemas on 11 December.
