Wellingtonians living in flood-prone areas are being warned to clear any blocked drains, ahead of heavy rain and winds forecast for tomorrow.
The bad weather is expected to hit the region from midday.
The capital was hit by serious flooding last month.
The city council's acting chief infrastructure officer, Mike Mendonca said this time around, residents can help to reduce the problems if they take a broom to street drains to get rid of any built-up leaves or rubbish.
Mendonca said southerly gales could also make driving conditions hazardous.
