Flooding has closed State Highway 56 at Opiki near Palmerston North.
The North Island road has been closed since Sunday night and is not expected to reopen until 10am on Tuesday.
A Transport Agency spokesperson says the Manuwatu River flooded the road with up to 2m of water.
