13:33 pm on 19 July 2004

The Solomons Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, has called on striking workers on the Russell Islands Plantation Estate to put the interests of their families first and not those advocating industrial action.

He told a meeting of more than a thousand people at Yandina, that the strike, which has gone on for the past four weeks is inappropriate and causing unnecessary suffering.

According to the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, Sir Allan told the workers that the strike was detrimental to the success of a company in which they owned 20 percent of shares.
