Police appeal for info after motorcyclist seen going at 199km/h on SH1

17:10 pm on 7 January 2019

Police are appealing for help from the public after a motorcyclist was seen travelling at close to 200km/h south of Dunedin.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said the behaviour was beyond idiotic.

The Aprilia SV1000 motorcycle was seen by police travelling at 199km/h on State Highway 1, near Waihola, on Saturday.

Mr Dinnissen said the risk the motorcyclist posed to themselves and other road users was unimaginable and unacceptable.

He said if they crashed they would have killed themselves and potentially others.

Anyone with information about this incident or the rider involved is urged to contact their local station or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
