The Royal New Zealand College of GPs says a visit to the doctor will be quite different in the future as the medical workforce undergoes changes.
GPs are meeting in Wellington this weekend for a biennial education convention, their third.
College president Harry Pert says a lot of the work that GPs now do will be much different in the future.
Dr Pert says general practices will take on work that is currently done in hospital settings and there will be more of a team approach as more work is done by nurses and healthcare assistants.
