The Tertiary Education Union says its members will strike at four universities on Thursday.

The union said the action will involve 4000 staff at Auckland, Massey, Canterbury and Lincoln universities.

Staff are striking over inadequate pay offers and employers' refusal to pay staff more than the living the wage, it said.

The union is still in negotiations with Victoria and Otago universities.
