Tomorrow is the last day of production before Samoa Tuna Processors in American Samoa shuts down its canning operations indefinitely.
The general manager of STP, Palepua Faafoi, said employees have been informed of the company's efforts to resume production or secure a buyer for the plant and he says employees would be called in when those efforts are successful.
The bulk of the workers are from neighbouring Samoa and that country's Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said his government was looking at how it can help the displaced workers.
The closure of the STP plant comes just weeks after the Yazaki carparts plant in Samoa closed, leaving nearly 1,000 out of work.
