American Samoa places stiff restrictions on visiting Middle Eastern people

15:56 pm on 13 August 2002

The Attorney General of American Samoa, Fiti Sunia, has banned the entry of all people of Middle Eastern descent into the territory unless he gives approval.

The security alert, which has been distributed to airlines and the customs and immigration departments, was dated August the 7th, the same time the US Embassy in Samoa was closed over security concerns.

The Attorney General's office says airlines should take special note of arriving passengers seeking entry to the territory with middle eastern names and features.

The office says all such individuals shall not be permitted to enter American Samoa unless approved to do so by the attorney general.
