Michael Dell, the founder of Dell Computers, is reportedly close to a deal that would take his company private again.

He's thought to be backed by private equity firm Silver Lake Partners in a debt-funded deal that could top $US24 billion.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek says Mr Dell wants to go private and transform the PC maker into a one-stop shop for corporate technology, including cloud and enterprise services, as well as mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.
