Transport card being phased-in on buses

20:21 pm on 24 June 2013

Auckland's new electronic public transport card has had a trouble-free start to being used on buses in the city.

The A T HOP prepay travel card is in use on ferries and trains, and on Monday morning had its first peak use on smallest bus operator Urban Express.

Auckland Transport says use of the card by Urban Express customers will increase during the month as they use up balances on their old tickets.

The agency says the rollout will extend to larger operator Birkenhead Transport in July and by the end of the year will cover all public transport services.
