A person has died after two cars crashed and then one plunged into a stream near the Waikato River.

The crash happened near the intersection of Masters Road and Goodwin Road in Aka Aka and was reported to emergency services at 4.40pm.
After the two cars crashed, one of them plunged into a stream on the side of the road and trapped one of the occupants.
They were taken out from the vehicle in a critical condition and died at the scene.
Two other people were seriously injured and have been taken to hospital.
Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are under way.
