14:25 pm on 13 October 2014

A range of activities is planned this week in New Zealand to help promote the Niuean language.

The Minister for Pacific Peoples, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, says the week is an opportunity to advance the use of Niuean in homes, work places and communities.

His Ministry runs programmes to foster greater use of a number of Pacific languages and this week events focussing on Niue include traditional performances, language programmes and cultural cuisine.

The theme is 'Fakaako, Fakaaoga, Fakamau ki a Mauokafua e Vagahau Niue' or Learn, Use, Retain, Maintain our Language Vagahau Niue.
