Auckland passenger train maintenance workers will go on strike next Tuesday unless they are offered a pay deal they accept.
Rail and Maritime Transport Union organiser Rudd Hughes said if the industrial action went ahead on 14 May, there would be fewer trains on Auckland tracks.
The Spanish-based international labour hire company CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) employs the workers, who maintain passenger trains for Auckland Metro.
The workers said they were paid $7000 a year less than workers doing similar jobs for KiwiRail.
