Alliance Group chief executive David Surveyor said the number of meetings nationwide had more than doubled with 24 events this year.

He said sheep, beef and deer farmers would hear more about the group's new strategy and prospects for the new season.

"The first thing we are intending to talk about is about our co-operative principles and, at the heart of it, that's about saying to our farmers - we want to get back to our absolute core and ensure that farmers are at the heart of every decision we make.

"The second thing we'll be talking about is our strategy going forward, and so we want to give farmers some real detail about where we are going."

He said farmers would also want to know about predictions for future prices.

"We've got a view that sheepmeat prices should be reasonable this year - and the one thing we will make sure we do is give farmers a regular update on how we think the forecast is changing and evolving throughout the course of the year."
