Homestead on Tinian, Northern Marianas, to benefit 170 families

07:55 am on 3 February 2014

The Department of Public Lands in the Northern Marianas will hold a groundbreaking for a homestead on Tinian this week, which will benefit at least 170 families.

A $1.7 million US dollar appropriation under the budget law helped to fund the project.

Each homestead lot has a size of anywhere between 800 square meters and 1,000 sq.m.

The Department of Public Lands says five other village homestead sites are being developed on Tinian, and are expected to accomodate at least 345 families.

Families will be given homestead permits that provide them three years to complete requirements and build their homes.

If, after three years they still have not met the requirements, the families need to justify this with Department or their homestead permit will be revoked.
